Monroe
Community College
For more than 50 years, Monroe Community College has evolved to meet the ever changing needs of its students and community. Its growth has triggered the need for an exterior signage and wayfinding system at its two upstate New York campuses.
CG, with Bergmann Associates, developed a strategic master plan that addresses the orientation and signage needs of MCC. The goals are to make the two campuses more accessible and user-friendly for visitors, support a more pleasant experience for students, and provide a manageable system for phased implementation.
Master Plan
Monroe Community College needed a sign system to address the pragmatic issues of wayfinding and parking for thousands of yearly campus visitors, sports fans and attendees of the college’s cultural events and lectures.
The signage component of the plan presents a framework for a comprehensive system of signage, wayfinding and environmental tools that the college can implement in phases over time.
The identity component of the program — the name and logotype — should ensure that the name is presented in an effective, legible and consistent manner in all applications across all media. Colors, materials and finishes should complement and enhance the college identity.
The functional component of the sign system — the wayfinding and signage — ensures a user-friendly experience for the first-time and repeat visitors by helping them safely and efficiently locate parking, event venues and campus buildings.
The image component of the sign system will enhance the look and feel of the campus by complementing its architecture and landscape while creating clearer connections and user/arrival experiences.
The educational component of the program — the interpretive aspect — seeks to elevate Monroe Community College’s historical, cultural and athletic traditions, so they are accessible to everyone. This means creating opportunities for faculty, students, visitors and friends to connect with Monroe Community College stories and themes.
